A FLU TOOLKIT FOR LONG-TERM CARE EMPLOYERS:
Within this comprehensive toolkit are a number of resources intended to help long-term care facility, agency, or corporation owners and administrators provide access to influenza vaccination for their workforce and to help any employer of workers in long-term care understand the importance of influenza vaccination for their employees.
APIC RECOMMENDS INFLUENZA AND PNEUMOCOCCAL IMMUNIZATION:
APIC encourages consumers to receive an influenza (flu) vaccine annually and a pneumonia immunization at the appropriate time according to your age and health history to protect yourself and others who are vulnerable to severe illness or even death if they get one of these viruses.
INNOVATIONS EXPAND TYPES OF SEASONAL FLU VACCINES:
Many of the projected 135-139 million doses of influenza vaccines being produced for this flu season for use in the U.S. are now available to consumers from six manufacturers licensed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A variety of flu vaccines, including some that were not available during past influenza seasons, are available this year.
APIC’s HEALTHCARE PERSONNEL IMMUNIZATION TOOLKIT:
The purpose of this toolkit is to provide infection preventionists and their employee/occupational health colleagues with a full spectrum of information, tools and resources that will assist them with the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and improvement of their healthcare personnel immunization program relevant in all healthcare settings.
MANDATORY VACCINATION OF HEALTHCARE WORKERS A SUCCESS:
Mandatory flu vaccination as a condition of employment did not lead to excessive voluntary termination, according to a 4-year analysis of vaccination rates at the Loyola University Medical Center (LUMC) in Maywood, Illinois. (Initial login required)
